I took my dogs out for a long hike a few weeks back; one of those January days where the air is sharp and the trails are empty. By the time I got back to the truck, I'd worked out something that had been nagging at me for days. The PNW has a way of doing that.
Living in Moses Lake puts you close to some of the best outdoor country in the country. The Columbia Basin, the Channeled Scablands, Palouse Falls; there's geological history literally carved into the landscape here from ancient floods. You hike through this land and you feel small in a good way and your problems shrink down to their real size.
I've skydived over the PNW and looked down at this whole stretch of eastern Washington from above. I've stood on the deck of a fishing vessel in the Bering Sea at 2am watching the northern lights. And honestly? The hikes around Moses Lake hit just as hard.
I try to get outside at least once a week; just me and the dogs, no phone, no podcast. Creation has a way of pointing back to the Creator. When I'm out there I pray more naturally than I do anywhere else.
If you're in Moses Lake or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest and you're not getting outside regularly; start. Even a thirty-minute walk around the lake will change your week.
